Around this time last December I decided to get off my butt and start a blog. I had some goofy ideas,  a camera, and way too much time on my hands and it seemed like a great idea.

It’s been the best thing I’ve ever done.

A year later I find myself loving and enjoying it more than I ever thought possible.

I want to say thank you.

Thank you to those of you who have read mattbites and left comments, emails and happy wishes. Thank you to my fellow food bloggers who inspire me and welcomed me into their corner of cyberspace, and thank you, the readers, who actually try to comprehend the ramblings contained here. I realize there are thousands upon thousands of blogs out there and I’m honestly humbled that you take the time to read mine.

I know some talk about the impersonal nature of cyberspace, but I say hogwash. I’ve met some of the most amazing people through mattbites and I’m hoping I continue to make these connections in the future.

To David, Aun and Melissa–I can’t even put into words how much you guys mean to me. You three are my idols on so many levels.

And thanks to my partner Adam, who has given me the love, space and encouragement to be as creative as I can be. No one could ever ask nor find someone better to share their lives with. I’m blessed.

From the bottom of my heart – happy holidays and thank you.

Now let’s eat!

No, Matt, thank you!!! Your blog is something truly remarkable – intelligent, beautiful, and always entertaining. The internet would be a sorry, sorry place without you, so you’d better keep it up, my friend! Here’s to MANY more birthdays for mattbites!

    p.s. did I mention you’re MY idol?

You are the best, and I am so happy to be your friend. Your humor and your talent and your brazen spirit are inspiring and, best of all, FUN!

    XOX!

    Whoa…steady there, fella.

I knew about Adam, but Aun and Melissa?…Does that mean I have to share you with them too?

But seriously, you’re great fun (like your blog) and I’ve loved meeting you and it always puts a smile on my face when you pop up in my inbox. I have a feeling that when I come to LA, or you to Paris, that’s gonna be one dangerous combination.

And let’s just hope some of those emails don’t ever become public, then we’ll be so-o-o busted..although you can share them with Adam, since he shares us with you!

    XoX

    Dear Matt—

Since I discovered the world of food blogs this year (WAY late to this party) I’ve uncovered countless sites that are beautiful to look at, full of amazing and innovative recipes and techniques, drool-inducing food porn galleries and endless amounts of engrossing reading material. Finding the time to re-visit these sites on a regular basis is impossible. It’s like going into those huge mega shopping malls where you are faced with too many great stores and way too little time and mullah to spend in them. So, I find myself drawn to those where I know there will be a great experience. It’s like when you go to the Grove, the first thing you do is run to the Abercrombie & Fitch store, not because you’d ever spend a dollar in there, but to stand near the front entrance and eye the nineteen year-old kid who’s wearing only low-rise jeans and a Christmas scarf while his some teensy waif creature uses a candy cane to play the xylophone on his chisled abs. Fa la la la la !!!

The point of my ridiculously long comment is that Matt Bites is like the A & F store. I have to visit it every chance I get! There are only a handful of bookmarked sites that I rush to park my cursor on like a kid opening presents under the tree and you are one of them. I am very glad that I discovered your site and that Ed and I had the opportunity to meet you this year. I hope the friendship continues! All the best from Ed and I to you and Adam.

Happy blog-birthday, Matt. Your blog is one of the most entertaining foodblogs around (well, David’s blog comes close though:)
    Thanks!

One year already! Time flies when you’re having fun… Happy blogday! Your blog is one of my favourites – the pictures are always divine and you make me laugh without fail. I echo a previous commenter’s thoughts that the blogosphere is a better place for having you in it :-)

Matt: Its been great to get to know you the tiny bit that the internet lets us! If you come out to the east coast (as in Boston) this next year let me know, would be great to meet the guy behind the pictures.

I hate to admit it (I guess cuz I am too old for this :-)) but I too do the WWMD thing when setting up/shooting my photos. I definitely could pic a much worse role model!

Glad you are here, thanks for being a part of this crazy food blogging neighborhood.
